Exposing The Myth Of The Free Home Business

by: Ken Leonard Jr
Here is some feedback I recently received from one of my home business advice newsletter readers:

"I have joined a lot of free home businesses and have made no money. I am determined to succeed at this internet thing, but I need help. I'm not going to spend money on this and waste it. Do you know where I can get a simple step by step FREE manual so I can start my home business?"

-- Jeff M.

And here is the advice I gave Jeff...
Have you spent months, maybe even years, looking for a way to make a living from home on the internet? If you are only considering what is commonly referred to as a "free home business", you are likely to be looking for a long time to come. You can avoid wasting more time and effort by understanding the realities of running an internet home business.

The mentality of getting something for nothing will put an end to any dreams of working for yourself you may have. So will the need for immediate gratification. By keeping these thoughts out of your mind, you greatly increase your chances of running a successful internet home business well into the future.

Let's start out by looking at the idea of a free home business. This would be a home business that you could start and run without spending a dime. You see many different kinds of businesses every day, both internet web sites and real world businesses in your neighborhood. Can you think of just one real business that can be started with no investment and requires no money to operate? You can't because there aren't any.

And spending months of your personal time to set up and run even the most basic small business (that may or may not make any sales) is still costing you money. Yes, your time is a valuable asset that does have monetary value, just as it does when you spend it working for someone else. The fact is that you cannot replace the time you have already used. But you can make more money. You cannot make more time.

If you are not willing to spend money to start and build your home business, you are involved with a hobby, not a business. It is possible to start and build an internet home business using low cost tools and resources, in case you don't have $100,000 lying around. It is also possible to use many no cost resources in your home business that will save you tons of money. But when it comes right down to it, you have to be willing to take on some risk if you want a real business of your own. You have to assume the risk of (wisely) spending money to build your business. There is no way around it.

Here is a getting started manual (free) like the one you asked about http://kenleonardjr.com/manual
Establishing priorities for your personal and business spending habits is your first important task. This will allow you to treat your internet home business like a business, not a hobby.

Since your initial cash flow may be small, your initial growth will be slower. But having your internet home business started and running is essential. You can't grow a business that doesn't exist. If you can then delay your gratification by putting most of your revenue back into the business, your business will slowly grow into a profitable money maker.

By delaying gratification, you are demonstrating that you can focus on the big picture, your long term future. This is an essential small business mindset that will allow you to eventually get what you want. Any money you spend on advertising your product or service should be focused on the long term, too. That means focusing on building mailing lists of targeted prospects, either email lists or direct mail lists (both is better!).

You will still end up making some sales along the way, but over time you will have created a much more valuable long term business asset. Future repeated contact with your email and direct mail lists will cost you very little, practically nothing. And the relationships you build through regular contact will make you many customers and sales long into the future at near zero overhead.

So go ahead and start a real internet home business, but stay away from any "free home businesses" (masquerading as real businesses) that won't build real long term worth. You will save yourself a lot of grief, and you will end up actually getting what you want out of life.

Easy Way for Newbies to Market Home Business

by: Leslie McGuirk
I began the journey of owning a home based business several months ago. Like many others, I found the task of marketing my business overwhelming and frustrating. Without marketing, you don't make sales, and without sales, you can't profitably run your business.

After spending countless hours on the computer and throwing many dollars down the drain, I learned one very important thing: You must combine mass marketing with a personal touch.

There are many great marketing tools you can use to achieve mass marketing including pay per click engines, placing ads, buying leads, banner advertising, and exchanging links just to name a few. While these methods can produce positive results, they lack the personal connection many new business owners need to build a true customer base.

On the other hand, personal touch methods such as emailing your family and friends about your new business can be a great way to start spreading the word, but this approach may not help you reach enough people to give your business the jump start it really needs.

So where did this lead this flailing entrepreneur? Message boards.
I initially visited message boards to get help with my marketing dilemma. In the process, I realized this was not only a place to exchange valuable information with other home business owners, but this was also a great place to market my own online business.

Not only did I find plenty of message board group members willing to give information, I found many interested parties for my own business. Soon, I realized that not only was I becoming a more educated marketing guru, I was introducing my new business to many new friends (and customers).
By joining message board groups, not only will you find a new outlet to advertise your business, but you will also build credibility among your peers.

Follow these simple steps to begin utilizing message boards to market your home business today:

1) Visit a search engine and do a search on message boards.

2) Click through to the message boards and search for forums related to work from home and/or your specific type of business.

3) Join a few message board groups. (Note: Some message board groups will allow you to post without being a member, but membership increases your credibility).

4) Post information about your business. Remember to give specific instructions about how to reach you including email address, Web URL, etc.

Message boards are an efficient and effective way to reach a targeted market with direct contact, and, best of all, they are free. As you will soon see, these message boards are quite powerful as there are thousands of subscribers who receive posts from message board groups in their email boxes each day.

Start joining message board groups now and take your home business to new heights!

Earn Income By Starting Your Own Home-Based Business

by: Paul Jesse

Are you interested in starting a home-based business? You may want to work from home for several reasons, including dissatisfaction with your current job, because you have small children or elderly parents that require you to be at home, or you may just need the income a home-based business opportunity can provide.

Since you have come this far, you are already an Internet entrepreneur ready to take the first step in creating a steady income and implementing your home-based business ideas. You can be your own boss and generate steady income with your own home-based Internet endeavors.

The first step in starting a home-based business is to develop a business plan. Researching your options thoroughly and making wise decisions can make your home-based business very successful and give you a steady stream of income, all from the comfort of your home. There are numerous business opportunities geared towards those who want to work from home. Some promise instant wealth and long lasting success for simply signing up. The truth is that any home business will require effort, marketing, and a network of contacts. The amount of work you are willing to put into your home-based Internet business is directly related to the amount of income you may earn.

Plan each step of starting your business carefully. Examine your short and long-term goals and plan how you are going to achieve them. Some home business opportunities are free while others require an investment. Check into free affiliate programs, free home-based businesses, and take a look at those which will need an upfront financial commitment from you. It is possible to earn serious cash from home, but you will have to commit to your business plan and follow it closely. A home-based business must follow certain guidelines. The difference is that the business is located in your home.

Do not restrict what you do based on self-imposed doubt and lack of confidence. If you have an idea to start your own home-based business and are truly ready to take that step towards making your dreams a reality, then develop your plan and implement it. It takes self-discipline to plan your business and your life then work towards turning your ideas into steady cash. Make informed decisions and give your home-based business the time and energy it takes to build wealth.

Distinguish yourself from the competition and you will be on your way to financial independence.
Successful home-based businesses utilize all available resources. There are many tools and sources of information freely offered that will assist you in achieving your goals. You can find any number of tips, marketing plans, strategies, and advice from the Internet and small business organizations.

It is common for those starting an Internet or other home-based business to feel as if they are getting nowhere fast. Patience, discipline, and old-fashioned hard work are the key in creating a constant cash flow. If you have the motivation and discipline it takes, you can operate your own successful home-based business, generate the income you need, and enjoy the freedom of being your own boss.

To your success!

Do You Want A Work At Home Job Or A Home Based Business?

by: Kirk Bannerman
Once you have decided to work at home (either by choice or out of necessity) you are faced with the decision as to whether to pursue a work at home job or to start a home based business.
That may sound like a minor distinction, but the differences can be quite significant.

A general psychological characterization of the entrepreneurial spirit says they are typically people who have a high energy level, set long-term goals, feel quite self-confident, and view money and financial security as a measure of accomplishment and piece of mind.

Entrepreneurs are further characterized as problem solvers, who take risks, learn from their failures (as well as those of others), accept personal responsibility, seize the initiative, and use all available resources to achieve their success.

Entrepreneurs also tend to compete with themselves and believe that success or failure lies within their personal control or influence. They do not see setbacks as failures, but rather just as learning experiences. Most of all, they exhibit persistence and tenacity, never giving up and never quitting the quest for success.

If you fit most of these criteria, you would probably elect to start a home business instead of undertaking a work at home job. However, the decision to work at home does not necessarily mean
that you want to be the owner of a business. You may prefer working at home for an already established company. This is often easier to do than owning a business yourself and you may not want all the headaches, responsibilities and obligations that come with owning your own business.

Regardless of which path (job or business) you choose, the first step is to figure out what business or work-from-home opportunity you want to pursue. There are many excellent information sources
such as public libraries and Internet sites that list seemingly countless home business and work at home job opportunities. The abundance is so great that it might well lead to confusion.

One of the most important factors is often overlooked. This is your personal inventory. Often this will yield some direction and focus to the business or job selection process. Assess yourself and your situation.

Write a resume for yourself that includes your background, education, training as well as any particular on-the-job skills you possess that could possibly be used in a venture or job. Also look at your leisure-time activities and hobbies, because many businesses result from a person following their "passion." Ask yourself how much time you can realistically put into a business venture, given your present commitments.

Once you have determined the general type of home business or work at home job that you want to undertake, it is of critical importance that you do your homework (research) to select the specific opportunity where you are going to make your "investment" (some combination of time, effort and money) in working at home.

Don't Become A Slave To Your Home Business

by: Kirk Bannerman
Although the expressed reasons for wanting to work from home are many and varied, most home based business owners cite the ability to set their own hours as a major factor in their decision to
work at home. However, many people that have work at home businesses often fall into a trap that flies directly in the face of their stated desire for time flexibility.

The strong growth in home based business activity continues and, according to the Small Business Administration's Office of Advocacy, fifty-two percent of ALL small businesses are home-based.

Some home based business owners have been known to become "workaholics" because their office is so accessible. Don't become a slave to your business...get out of your home office regularly to renew and revitalize yourself.

Close the door to your office or otherwise remove yourself from your designated "work area" and go into your "home" area to live your personal life. If your business involves the use of the
telephone and you find it difficult to ignore a ringing phone in the office, simply turn the ringer off and turn the volume on the answering machine way down. If your business is internet based, just turn off your computer (or at least get away from the monitor and keyboard).

As a work at home business entrepreneur, you certainly aren't required to be available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week just because your business is located in your home. After all, your office or workspace is just an area in your home...its not your home itself!

Working and living under the same roof has a host of advantages, but it can present some challenges (in addition to the workaholic syndrome mentioned, above) and stress factors.

Here are four ways to create a less stressful home business environment:

-Remember why you wanted to become involved with a home-based business (i.e. more time for family, work schedule flexibility, etc.)

-Have discussions with your family members and get their input about the working arrangements and the amount of time they want with you.

-Use good time management techniques. Keep a list of tasks by order of importance. There are many low cost and effective "day planners" or "organizers" readily available today.

-ALWAYS take a little time to "smell the roses".
While not experiencing the negatives common to a corporate office working environment, the home-based business owner may occasionally experience stresses and frustrations that are unique
to working at home.

Networking with other home-based and small business owners provides an opportunity to connect with others who may be experiencing the same stresses/frustrations that you are. Sharing
stressful and/or frustrating issues with someone else in the same situation can relieve your stress and may bring you good advice from a different point of view.

As a final note, remember to observe Home-Based Business Week each year (it is always the week of October that includes the second Tuesday).

Direction, Desire and Determination, 3 D’s To Home Business Success

by: Tim Somers

When reviewing home business opportunities you must do a thorough review of the opportunity. Make sure the company has a superior marketing plan as well as exceptional marketing tools to help you succeed in your quest for home business financial freedom.

To make money using the Internet you need to be involved in several different opportunities to be successful – make sure the home business opportunities you choose to pursue have a clear path to success, giving you a definite direction in achieving your home business goals.

Most people fall into one of two categories, those that just think about success and those who have the desire to succeed. Even though every one really wants success in their life, few really take the necessary steps to be successful in life or any type of home business for that matter.

It is so easy to come up with excuse after excuse why you can’t be successful. It really is a mystery why we can’t take control of our wants and needs. If you just step up to the plate and take control over your life’s ambitions you’ll see how success is really within reach. If you believe you can achieve, but you must also have the desire to achieve what you believe.

You’ve been provided great direction; you have the desire, so now it’s all down hill, you are going to be successful in your home business and you will make money – right? That may be enough for most, however without determination your chances for success will be far less than someone who has the determination to withstand the hurtles a home business entrepreneur will face.

9 out of 10 home business ventures will fail – why? Many people start a home business with excitement and a desire to be successful – but as soon as the going gets tough, most will lose hope and faith and turn the energy that fueled their home business completely off.

You must go the extra mile, have the passion and determination and success will not be an issue – you will succeed in your home business. Your success should be fueled by your mistakes and failures. Take what you learned from an unsuccessful situation and build on that failure – never give up, never surrender.

A successful person has the endurance to make money with their home business in spite of all the difficulties that will arise. They have no doubt and never waver no matter what is thrown at them. You must be stubborn and hard willed refusing to cave in when you are at what seems to be the bottom. The power of your determination has most likely never been tapped – we can all be successful at anything, I mean anything if you are stronger than the opposition - failure.

Failure must not be an option – Thomas Edison made 4,999 unsuccessful attempts at creating the perfect light bulb – it was his strong willed determination that finally lead to his successful 5,000th attempt. The list of these types of examples is endless – your determination for success must be endless as well.

You can pursue success and overcome just about any problem, snag, or bump in the road that life has to offer – if you have a strong enough determination. Where there is a will, there is a way. If you waste time wondering “why me” or “why can’t get a break” you will be destined to fail and never have a successful home business.

Nothing worth doing will ever be easy, you can overcome the odds and make money in your home business venture if you have Direction, Desire and Determination – nothing can hold you back with when you have these three ingredients deep within you.

Diary of Beginning Home Business Entrepreneur Part 1

by: Thomas Johnson
Introduction
Hello entrepreneurs. I have been in business for about 3 months. I started my business to become rich and get out of my job. The current job position I hold is a computer network teacher in a medium-sized School District. I want out of this position because I know I can do much better.

If you are starting or thinking about starting a home business then you know exactly how I feel. If you are a beginner in a home business, I would like you to know that things will be rough. But you can get through the rough times to reap the rewards.

Reason

As I stated earlier, I have been in business for about three months. I am still waiting for the profits to come in. Why am I still working in my business? I continue working on my business because of the reward. I want to be rich. I also enjoy being home with my children in the summer. After dealing with the my children this summer, I am going to enjoy working at home ALONE during the school year.

Business Type

As you should know, the only why to become rich is to be your own boss. The only way to become your own boss is to start your own business. The real question is what type of business should you start. Should you start a franchise, consultant, home business, or investing. Home businesses are easier and less costly to start. Also, home businesses can be run very effectively on the Internet.

It is very important for you to select the correct business to be in. I have started several other businesses in the past. None of them were correct for me. Hence, I did not put forth enough energy, effort, etc. to make them successful. Let me give you several examples:

My first business was a business to business selling. I was not a good salesperson nor did I want to be. Thus the business was destined to fail.

The second business was an Internet-based business. I did not put in the funds nor learn enough to market the business. Thus this business was destined to fail.

For this reason, I am stressing that you determine the best business for yourself. As I mentioned earlier, I have decided on a home based business. Why? I want the idea of being able to stay home. A home business will give me the flexibility to be available for my family at any time of the day. If you would like more information on the home business I am running go to www.tmjohnson.us.

Knowledge

As a new entrepreneur, you know there are many things you will have learn:
1.Product or service
2.Clients or customers
3.Distribution
4.Marketing

Out of these four items, you may find that marketing is hardest to learn and the most expensive.

Purpose

This article has been written to encourage new entrepreneurs to continue working for their dreams. Your dreams are the rewards of your hard work. If you think like me, you know that your dreams will not come true as long as you work for others. Your reward is definitely worth your full effort and sacrifice. Because of your effort and sacrifice your dreams, rewards, will come true.

Next Issue
We will discuss marketing.

Dedication is essential to your home business success

by: Itsik tzur
What is dedication?
The definition in the dictionary is:
"The act of dedicating or the state of being dedicated".
Have you ever been in a situation were things weren't going the way you wanted or expected?
What did you do?

Did you decide to give up or did you decide to keep on giving it everything you've got? Most home business entrepreneurs start their new venture feeling positive and excited.

They read, listen, and study all they can about internet marketing. Work hard to implement those concepts, ideas and strategies.

But In most cases during the process of implementation they find out that things aren't Going the way they've expected.

So what do they do?
Some of them spend a lot of money buying leads, e-books, internet marketing courses and so on.
Others simply go back into their comfort zone forgetting they ever wanted to build an online business not to mention a successful one. But a few of them (and I do mean just a few of them) make a decision to go all the way willing to give it everything they've got.

Now don't get me wrong here e-books, internet marketing courses, leads, ppc advertising and so on are great tools, assuming you know how to choose the right ones. One essential element that makes these tools work for you and bring results is simply this: a decision to dedicate yourself to your goal.

The best way for me to explain the state of being dedicated is by the following example:
Imagine you make a decision to climb a very high and steep mountain.
While climbing you reach a point where you feel it is too difficult to go on and there is no way you're going to reach the top.

You think about giving up and going back down, but you notice there is very bad weather and you must reach the top. Well, I bet you will find a way to reach the top knowing there is no other option. Out of nowhere new energies, ideas and strategies start popping up.

Eventually you would write an e book about how to climb mountains and reaching the top.

The point I am trying to make here is this:
When you set a goal don't allow yourself the option to back down because this is the only way to reach a state of being dedicated and eventually reaching your goal.

To build and maintain a successful home business you have to be in a state of dedication.
This means that there is no such thing as failure and no way to back down from your decision.

E books, internet marketing courses, leads, ppc advertising, ezine and so on are the tools you use to build you're home business. When you integrate those tools with your unrelenting desire to build a successful home business you become unstoppable. Then you become a powerful internet marketing machines.

So before going back to look for more leads, new ppc engines, classified adds, new software's and so forth…..
Be honest and ask yourself:
Am I dedicated to my home business? Am I willing to give it everything I've got without thinking of the possibility of going back?

Create Your Own Home Business

by: Darrell Knox

A home business is by far the best way to support yourself if you just cannot stand working for others for less money than you need to survive. It’s also the best way to get out of a good paying job that just takes up too much of your precious short life working for someone else.

Let’s face it, you probably know someone who has a home business. Do they look happy to you? Do they complain as much about work and money as you do? Probably not. This is not to say that you should quit your job and start a home business. You should start one while you still have your job. Some people complain that this is hard and takes up too much of their free time. In the beginning a home business is not profitable – you have to work at it like anything else.

Some people eventually go back to work blaming some program or home business opportunity that wasted their time and didn’t work. Unfortunately, the odds are actually that they didn’t work hard enough and stick to their dreams. Many people allow themselves to believe that there are no legitimate home businesses. It’s easier to go to work thinking this than to let themselves truly believe that a home business is possible, profitable, or liberating.

But if you truly believe there are no good home businesses, that they are all scams, then what are the thousands of people doing everyday in your hometown driving around during work hours?

You know the ones. The people you see on your day off that are driving around and standing in line in places you frequent on your days off. They can’t ALL be on their days off too! You have wondered, just like I did, what it is these people do. I know you have.

Many of them have their own home business. Many of the people you see at the post office who know the clerks by first name are shipping packages of goods they sold on auction at Ebay or their own websites.

The cars parked in the county clerk’s office in your home town. Some are employees there, but not all of them. Many of the people coming and going from that office in your town (during business hours when everyone should be working, right?) are real estate brokers, or no money down buyers and sellers looking up local property information.

Home business owners are all around you, everyday. The home business industry is quite literally booming and is getting larger exponentially by the month. The worst thing you could ever do to yourself, that is a life-altering belief system, is let yourself believe it is all a scam or that there is no room for YOUR creativity and YOUR value as a home business owner of any kind!

Take me for instance! I own my own website and I sell information, business tools for home business people who work on the internet, and services of all kinds. I work from home. I am one of those people you see during the week driving around town while you wonder what it is I do for a living. Nice to meet you!
